How to Buy an Investment Bag

May 16, 2016

I remember the day well. It was my 18th birthday when my parents surprised me with my first designer bag. It was a Louis Vuitton Neverfull Monogram and it was the most perfect purse I’ve ever seen! However, when I was choosing my next designer bag, this time myself, I was overwhelmed with emotions and the wide variety of choices. My next purchase was a Louis Vuitton Alma Tote made out of patent leather. It was an impulse buy and even though I loved the bag dearly I wasn’t able to wear it every day as it was too dressy for casual wear. In my opinion, designer bag is an investment, a form of a personal statement and even a symbol that incites happiness. That’s why I decided to come up with a guideline that will help you choose your first designer bag right.

Choose a brand and a model that is classic and most likely won’t go out of style. Over time, our style evolves so does fashion and you don’t want to be stuck with a limited edition purple Valentino bag that no one wants anymore. In my opinion, the brands that are safe to go for are Chanel, Saint Laurent and Celine. Many of their models are as timeless as they come. My top picks would be a Chanel Flap Bag, Saint Laurent classic satchel, Saint Laurent Sac De Jour and a Celine Nano.

I would recommend to buy black coloured bag if it is your first designer purchase. It will match your every single outfit believe it or not. If you don’t like this colour go for neutral tones.

Always go for a striking bag, the bag that you will always love! I know it is hard to not fall for trends but try make a decision based on your personal style. Assess your wardrobe, think what you want from this bag and how you will use it. See if it is something you can wear often during the day and even for a night out. The purpose of bag will also help you to determine the size you want easier.

Set a budget before you begin browsing and stick to it. You don’t want to go in debt over a handbag. If you are looking for more affordable designer purse I would recommend choosing Stella McCartney or Alexander Wang. The quality is beautiful and prices don’t bite comparing to the ones of Chanel and Celine. Also these brands already have their own classics such as Falabella and Rockie bags.

I hope this helps! Good luck shopping and thanks for stopping by!
